How can we use nature to help communities build resilience to extreme weather events and climate change?

After a decade of impact in the Netherlands, the Red Cross Princess Margriet Fund (PMF) is taking its mission global. As of January 2025, PMF has become an international initiative within the Red Cross Movement, championing prevention, climate adaptation, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across 192 national societies and the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) in Geneva.

Born from HRH Princess Margriet’s lifelong dedication to humanitarian work, the Fund has evolved from disaster response to prevention — investing in safe communities, healthy ecosystems, and resilient economies. In its new international role, PMF will strengthen partnerships with organizations such as WWF, The Nature Conservancy, and IUCN, helping communities worldwide to adapt, restore, and thrive.

Helping Before Disaster Strikes. The Princess Margriet Fund believes the best way to save lives is to act early. By investing in prevention and Nature-based Solutions, communities can adapt to climate change before disasters happen. Restoring ecosystems — from mangroves to riverbanks — protects both people and nature. Prevention is not just smart aid; it’s lasting resilience.
